About Me

Hello, my name is Hope. This blog is about my personal style and fat acceptance journey, with some sewing and other things on the side. I make an effort to dress creatively and express my personal style everyday (although some days let's face it, you just want to wear jeans and a t-shirt haha). I think that what you wear says a lot about who you are on the inside, it's not just a superficial thing. Especially since I have begun to accept my body I find that my style has become a powerful form of self expression. I love my fat body and I am going wear what I want to help broadcast that feeling to the world.

Ever since I can remember I have had a passion for clothing history and fashion. I remember looking through old history textbooks and marveling at the way people used to dress. I have also always loved the theatre and sewing. At one point I really wanted to become an actress, but I think working behind the scenes suits me a little more. These interests have led me to obtain a degree in Costume Studies, and I have recently completed a post-grad certificate in Museum Management and Curatorship. I plan to work with textile collections in museums in the future.

I also love photography and have been practicing my skills a lot more recently.

I have a bunny who will probably make regular appearances on here as she is both cute and crazy. I also have a long-term boyfriend (almost 6 years yo!) who may or may not show up from time to time.

Luna the Destructor! We like to joke that she is evil and plotting to take over the world.

So there's the whilrwind tour of my life. If you read my blog occasionally you might learn some more things that I can't express in this brief introduction. Enjoy!

  1. Um, I can't believe I just found your blog. That dress is AMAZING. I would wear it everyday.

    Awesome. Consider yourself followed.

    1. Thank you! I wish I could wear it everyday, it might get a little dirty though (the dry cleaning bill would be outrageous!). I think I have stopped by your blog before through the Militant Baker. Props to another lady from the Hammer. Thanks for reading!

  2. Hi Hope, I'm so very pleased I found your blog via the militant baker. Wow. I had o idea there were so many women out there making a stand for themselves & fat acceptance. I need to hear this stuff! In particular, your blog appeals to me because I am a novice sewer & would love to learn more. Making my own flattering clothing would be fantastic as well, it's just hard sometimes to feel good in clothes that pinch, bind, chafe, etc.

    1. Isn't Jes awesome?! She is a very inspirational lady. I was really lost in my fat acceptance journey until I started reading other blogs about it too. You should also check out Rachele at The Nearsighted Owl, she is one of my main inspirations. I try to post about my projects on here but I haven't had too much sewing time in the last few weeks. Don't worry though I will be posting more in the future. Do you know how to drape? I find that is the best way to get a good fit, and it is quick and fun! Feel free to e-mail me if you want to chat about it some more.
